Resources for Nebraska Pagans

Nebraska shops and places for Pagans and WitchesVolute wrote this response to an email from a Witch moving to the Lincoln, NE area.  If you are in the area or plan to move there, you may find this information useful.  Caution: This email message contains personal opinions!

Merry Meet,

It is good to hear from another open minded person will be moving to Nebraska, however I recently left the state.  I can share a few resources to help you get settled in and find others.

Of course there is always the local New Age section of Barnes and Noble, on both O street and at South Point.  But better yet there are some new places.  Pegasis Books and Ye Olde Magick Shoppe in Omaha are gone but there seem to be more solitaries in the area than before.  Kearny, Lincoln and Omaha have meetup groups but there are some shops with great people you might like to visit:

Here and Back Again
Tucked away in the corner of Arapaho Village mall near 9th and High street. Owner is awesome, new and used books, witchcraft supplies, stones, tarot, etc.
3237 South 13th Street
Lincoln, NE 68502

Bodhi Imports
Just north of South street on 17th (17 is one way North only) with a great selection of incense, candles, stones, crystals, minerals, clothes, and a wonderful staff of Buddhists and Wiccans.  Nearby is "Grateful Bread" just 2 doors down with the best vegetarian chipotle mac and cheese ever.  I refer to this area of town as "Linksterdam" for its laid back hippy atmosphere and wonderful shops.  The Goodwill store across the street often has interesting jewelry, candle holders and other interesting finds.
1645 South 17th Street
Lincoln, NE 68502

A good one to hit when you are around the Barnes and Noble on O street, this hippy shop has some herbs, not too fresh, some great resins: frankincense, myrrh, dragon's blood, copal, and a good incense selection. Body jewelry (numerous pentacles) tarot decks, stones, crystals, altar boxes, tarot boxes and clothes. Tons of natural stone beads and beading supplies.  Some of the staff is excellent, some not. If you connect with one of the staff, find out when they work so you don't hit on a day when an unfriendly sort is working.
4139 O Street
Lincoln, NE 68510

The Next Millennium Metaphysical Books and Gifts
The largest store of its kind in Nebraska, occasionally with book signings from Llewellyn authors, great book selection and anything else you might be looking for. A good "road trip" or field trip destination when you connect with others near you.
3141 North 93rd Street
Omaha, NE 68134

Open Harvest
The best place to get small quantities of very fresh herbs. This natural food store has been around for a very long time. I remember being a coop member in the 70s when it was a hole in the wall on Randolph street but now their new location on about 17th and South is clean and well stockedwith organic produce and a deli. It's a good place to visit in route to Bodhi or Here and Back Again without going too far out of your way.
1618 South Street
Lincoln, NE 68502

Finally, though not specifically Pagan, there is a fun activity where you might meet open minded folks.  It is in and around the Haymarket (great place for fresh produce at the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings) and it occurs once a month. It is called First Friday. For more information check out the Downtown Association web site here:

Good luck. I wish we had met sooner before I moved!

Brightest Blessings to You!

I buy a lot of my essential oils at Akin's Natural Foods which is on about 68th & O behind Grisantis. It is also nice that they are open until 9pm which is great because I come from out of town. They have some knowledgeable associates there, and are always willing to order something for me of its not in stock.
