Cream of Tartar (potassium bitartrate) is a byproduct of winemaking. Crystals of it form in wine casks and sometime in wine bottles, usually on the underside of the cork. You may know it from the spice cabinet as it is used to keep beaten eggs whites and whipped cream stable.
Mix a few spoonfuls of cream of tartar with lemon juice Apply to nails, top and underside. Allow to dry. Rinse. Repeat if necessary.

When your nails are restored to their healthy normal color, remember to moisturize with olive oil or lotion.
