There are many online services, as well as 1-800 and 1-900 lines that utilize the skills of Witches and Psychics. My initial ethical questions were abundant in regards to this occupation. Some companies are run by and staffed by complete charlatans, and each psychic on every line is an independent contractor.
This means that each psychic is free to do nearly any type of reading they wish. Some companies try to screen their psychics diligently, and there are excellent ones out there. Because this is not a promotional thing, all companies will remain nameless. However, if you are interested in working on a "line", know that there are legitimate ones out there. Be careful, read your contracts well, and be prepared to work hard.
No matter how you feel about these types of lines, they do offer a unique opportunity for us to dispel the myths and misinformation about the Craft and about psychics. They will also help to fine tune your abilities as a reader, counselor, and all around helpful person. They can only legally be presented as "Entertainment Only" but to me, their work can be much more than that. Professional psychic counselors and readers have a unique perspective on the human condition.
The true life stories on this site have been inspired by over ten thousand actual readings. Of course, the names and exact situations have been changed, but the essence is still there and has not been enhanced or glamorized. These are real people with real circumstances that are not usually addressed by the popular culture.
Readers are often criticized and attacked from every angle. A recent attack I've heard was not an ethical one, but a jealous one. A person accused psychics of "sitting on their arses all day talking on the phone". This still makes me laugh! I cannot believe the ignorance and simplification of this work.
For many hours every day (sometimes as many as 18 hours) readers use nearly all of their psychic, emotional, mental, and magickal energy to help people. There are clients who are broken-hearted, suicidal, inquisitive, radio stations (interviews!), Satanists, fundamentalist Christians, spiritual seekers, fellow readers (second opinions), people who just want to talk, and people facing every problem you can imagine, and many that you would never imagine. From financial worries, to questions about sex changes, no subject is left out.
A "distance" psychic who works online or by telephone, or any other reader for that matter, must be quick minded, an accurate reader, excellent counselor, good friend, professional, open minded, well informed, and good at communicating. You have to be a general information source for everything from pregnancy testing to the effects of alcohol on a relationship.
This in no way means that every 900 psychic fills all of these qualifications, but there are many psychics and Witches who put everything they have into their work. For some, this means an hour of meditation and study before doing readings, for others it means making sacrifices with their own lives to help others.
This is a very misunderstood and underestimated profession, and may be the second oldest one at that (possibly the oldest?). There are negative con artists out there, but the majority are sincere. So while we are dispelling the misinformation and myths about Witchcraft, Wicca, Paganism and the like, let us embrace these big-hearted (the genuine ones) people as well. They aren't all shysters, and a few are Pagans trying to find a way to work in society.
