Cream of TartarHave you ever painted your nails black or green when dressing up "Witchy"? Did you accidentally stain your nails when making a ritual henna mehndi? Did you stain your nails green when harvesting herbs?

If so, you may have stained nails that look dirty no matter how much you scrub, but there are some simple, natural ways to take out the stains. These techniques are also great as pre-treatments for French manicures without the need for a two part painting.

Frigga's Natural Fingernail Whitening Treatment #1:

Cream of Tartar (potassium bitartrate) is a byproduct of winemaking. Crystals of it form in wine casks and sometime in wine bottles, usually on the underside of the cork. You may know it from the spice cabinet as it is used to keep beaten eggs whites and whipped cream stable.

Mix a few spoonfuls of cream of tartar with lemon juice Apply to nails, top and underside. Allow to dry. Rinse. Repeat if necessary.

Frigga's Natural Fingernail Whitening Treatment #2:

Mix a few spoonfuls of baking soda with hydrogen peroxide to make a paste. Apply to nails, top and underside. Allow to dry. Rinse. Repeat if necessary. If small white dots appear, they will usually fade after a couple of hours.

Aftercare:

When your nails are restored to their healthy normal color, remember to moisturize with olive oil or lotion.
